Atlanta Falcons can't get it done against the Giants in the 2012 playoffs.

Apparently the Falcons didn't take heed to my pre-game playoff speech.

Now were 0-3 in the playoffs and have looked worse in each outing that we've been in the playoffs.

The Falcons are the first team in NFL history to have scored over 400 points in the regular season,

and failed to put up any offensive points to a team that gave up over 400 points in the regular season or playoffs.

Let it be known that anyone calling Matt Ryan "Mattie Ice" should duck, but at least it's a good thing he wears number 2, because he sure plays like number 2 in the playoffs. Matt Ryan's inability (or fear) to step up in the pocket to make a throw, even if it means he has to take one to the chin is hurting this team. I know, it's probably very intense when 250 to 300 plus pound men are running at you much faster than you can run away, but that's why you get paid a kings ransom to play a game. The run game sucked and lacked any creativity, I mean really, three yards and a cloud of dust running game in the playoffs, what happened to counters, delayed draw plays and the occasional screen pass? I know Ovie is on IR, but really, getting stopped on multiple 4th and 1 situations is inexcusable, especially when on one of those tries Turner was on the sideline, give me a break!!! It's almost like the coaching staff only watched the games the Giants won and did all the plays the Giants were good at defending. With the Atlanta Falcons keep your expectations low, that way anything extra is a bonus. However, I won't think like that, because low expectations isn't a worthy bar when your trying to build something good. I'll keep my head high Atlanta Falcons, but know my eyes will be slanted until I see some creativity, toughness and grit!!!

What up ya'll, it's official, the Militant Marker is back in action just in time for the transition into the summer of 2011! During my self imposed hiatus I was thinking of ways to spice up my blog, so I and have decided to add food adventures, book and movie reviews and of course toy nostalgia. Let's break in this rebirth with a few pics of grub from the the grill leading into the spring. Prawns from the farmers market, lamb sausage, spiced chicken, slaw and grilled leeks! Desert you ask, Absinthe was the weapon of choice...uuuugggghhh.

Steam Ticks...

Pesky, itchy and just annoying, these Martian Steam Ticks are the scourge of anything that has blood in its veins wandering the Mars surface. The sole purpose of the critters is to feed and lay eggs. These "bugs" also appear to have a benefit for travelers to Mars. As the ticks feed they emit a breathable gas that benefits humanoid respiratory systems. For people who are on the Mars surface who utilize breathing systems, there have been some companies that have produced space suits that have compartments equipped with the ticks, that can be released into the suits to provide breathable air in an emergency. The process to remove these ticks is very long and can sometimes be fatal, so there are cases where the parasite can't be completely removed, just sterilized so they can't reproduce.

This is a self portrait that I whipped up in about 10 minutes last week. I finally got around to inking it, and figured I would post it. As much as I have convinced myself that I can never draw myself accurately, I sketched this out and it seems to do me a toonish justice. Hopefully I'll have it colored in the next week.

What I'm reading....The Zombie Survival Guide

I haven't been as up to par with my reading over the last 6 months or so, so I decided to get back on it to spark some much needed desire and inspiration to get back on track with my own projects. The new title I picked up was The Zombie Survival Guide by Max Brooks. The meat of this book offers extensive information on battling and surviving against the living dead (maybe one day this book will come in handy?). The Zombie Survival Guide has been out for a while, but I just never broke down and got it and now that I have it, I realize just how entertaining it is.

Paul Bunyan

This American lumberjack or (French Canadian depending on what side of the fence your on) is a folk hero of massive proportions to say the least. Paul is said to have had a blue ox named "Babe" who that was to have measured 42 axe handles. and always had a plug of chewing tobacco between his horns (now that some cool stuff!!!). Paul Bunyans physical attributes were truly the things made of legend. He was said to have had a laugh that would shatter windows, it took 17 storks to carry him home when he was born, as well as being able to dig the Grand Canyon just by dragging his axe behind him. Stay "tooned" for Babe and Pecos Bill!!!!!

John Henry "The Steel Driving Man"

I had been thinking about drawing characters in 19th Century folklore (Pecos Bill, Paul Bunyun, Iron John to come) and what better character to start this jump off than John Henry. Legend has it, John Henry went head to head (with two 9 pound hammers) and won against a steam drill, in a contest of man over machine (in a way it was a battle of man over machine for jobs), ending in numerous versions of his death and ending up being replaced by drills anyway. Some say he died of a heart attack after winning the contest, others have him being blown up in mines, brain aneurisms and just plain old being burned out, with a few having him living. There are lots of different stories of his origins, whether it be Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi, Virginia or Jamaica, the one constant was John Henry was a strong representation of the 19th Century working class. In Virginia lore he was a man of a kind heart, very strong, pleasant speech, yet a gambler, a roue', a drunkard and a fierce fighter, and was loved by all the negro women from the southern West Virginia line to the C&O Railroad.

I have been really inspired as of late with drawing different versions of "underworld" type characters. Here is one of the things that has squirted out my head as of late. His name is Pirumm (a wild ass) Shurr (one who observes), in essence an asshole who is basically in your business. Be on the look out for the rest of his crew, it's going to get very interesting....Muuuaaahh ha ha ha ha!!

The Return of "Big Blue" Slogg

I've been away from posting for a while and ran across a sketch for another animal in the world of the Militant Martians. I decided to color it and figured I would post it instead of my standard black and white. The Slogg is lazy, slow and always hungry, they are grazing animals that are used on Mars primarily as "beasts of burden". They are generally docile animals, but when provoked you better "tuck and duck". Easily domesticated and loyal, the Slogg generally forms a strong bond with it's owner leading them to become highly protective. Grazing in packs of 20-25 there is surely no shortage of these beasts on on the numerous sandy regions on Mars.

Bum Rush the show....War Troggs

A War Trogg is a brutal four legged piece of compact destruction. No tricks or smoking mirrors with this one, just hop on, go straight ahead and raise the ruckus. Troggs are mildly social beasts with ultra aggressive tempers that rome in groups of up to 20, they average in weight at a plump 6.5 tons (the heaviest one ever captured was weighed in at 21 tons). They all have a set of eyes on both sides of their heads generally located at the base of the skull to provide them with 360 degrees of sight. Since these creatures are so aggressive, they have to be implanted with neural chips which administer an anti aggression hormone to curb their behavior when they get into a frenzy, it also allows their handlers to be able to direct their movements from their interface in the cockpit. They can be fitted with an assortment of arms from field canons to rocket launchers and tail maces.

Martian Heavy Infantry

"Damn those little Martians are pesky". Those were the last words that were said by lieutenant Roswell Baron III, before the pressure leech sucked the last bit of life out of him and exploded. This is an archive photo of a Martian Infantryman armed with a heavy pressure leech shooter. Pressure leeches are not native to Mars but were scientifically bred to regulate some of the more annoying aquatic life on the bottom of one of Mars' underground rivers. The military grade pressure leaches are bred to be more aggressive and to secrete a highly corrosive mucous that softens organic or synthetic matter to make it edible. One highly useful modification made to the species is a controlled timer charge that is usually added to the creatures exoskeleton that can be detonated by remote. The Martians love to let their victims get the best of both worlds, mutilation and then detonation.

The Guu Rok cometh...

Why have an armored Humvee when you can have a self armored Guu Rok, with an optional body slug thrower. Guu Roks are non social animals that live deep in the caves under the Mars face. Martians tend to use these creatures for everything from transportation, to military protocols. Guu Roks literally will eat pretty much anything in their sight, when used for military purposes they are applied with a cerebral chip on their temples to mildly sedate them and also to steer them via computer interface.

This is a Martian light infantryman that is assigned to commander Ta'. These little fella's are more than capable of slaying unwanted off worlders and really enjoy the hell out of it.

Just got around to inking up the "debut' martian, and figured I would go ahead and drop it. If you didn't know a couple of night's ago the Pistons stunk it up again...and now Shaq Diesel gets to go to another finals with the Heat ( I do think they get rolled up by Dallas though), oh well I don't even want to go on another tangent again. Hope you like.

This is the first character in a series of "militant" martians I came up with. It was an idea I had about how I think martians would react to nosey spacers who would dare to land on their planet and try to put them on blast (they just simply put them on blast first). This is a sketch I did while watching the Detroit Pistons in Game 4 roll up like they haven't never been there before against the Miami Heat (pisses me off). Oh yeah, back to martians, I will be trying to post weekly to bi weekly pics of some of these fun loving killing machines, carnage goes a long way these days and I will do my part to appease.

I was looking at old 70's ans 80's commercials and I ran across Timer an old favorite of mine as a kid ( and I must say to this day I don't drench my salads in dressings because of this guy reminding me I shouldn't "drown my food" ). Timer was a character in the late 70's that was used in some of the health and nutrition commercials of that time for ABC. Whether he was "hankerin' for a hunk of cheese" or making "sunshine sticks" out of orange juice, he was still a character I vividly remember from my childhood. I did a quick sketch of him and figured I would add a little color and post.

This is an inked drawing I did of Aurra Sing, a Star Wars expanded universe character. I think I did this drawing around 2002-2003 along with the Jango Fett. I will probably end up at some point or another changing a few things in the drawing, but for now on to more current things.
