The Militant Marker

I am a freelance animation assistant, character designer and inker in the metro area. I do freelance work for the likes of Turner Studios, Primal Screen and Radical Axis. I just chase the paper.

My Photo
Name: Yardley "Midnight" Hickey
Location: Atlanta, Georgia, United States

I draw pictures, try to make them move, then ink them. I'm currently trying to transfer all the things in my head onto paper. Just between us, I'll settle for 40% of the stuff in my head and will post 20% on this blog.

The devious Militant Marker

I did a quick sketch of myself the early part of last year and never got around to finishing it. I was in a pretty devious mood at the time of the drawing and when I ran across it I figured I would post it. My motivation for completing and posting this comes from nothing being on TV and resorting to having to watch political prognostication.

Dunny prototype sketch..

I had some ideas for a Dunny I was planning on working on a while back, so i did some sketches of those ideas. I did this sketch over a year ago, so that's the type of motivation I have to get started.

Steam Ticks...

Pesky, itchy and just annoying, these Martian Steam Ticks are the scourge of anything that has blood in its veins wandering the Mars surface. The sole purpose of the critters is to feed and lay eggs. These "bugs" also appear to have a benefit for travelers to Mars. As the ticks feed they emit a breathable gas that benefits humanoid respiratory systems. For people who are on the Mars surface who utilize breathing systems, there have been some companies that have produced space suits that have compartments equipped with the ticks, that can be released into the suits to provide breathable air in an emergency. The process to remove these ticks is very long and can sometimes be fatal, so there are cases where the parasite can't be completely removed, just sterilized so they can't reproduce.

Cobra Commander is in the house for Throwback Thursdays!!!

What more can I say, I had to choose Cobra Commander as my entry for Throwback Thursdays!! Hopefully I can get off my butt and have it colored by the entry deadline. For the people who were living in a hole, here is Cobra Commanders bio from his vintage action figure file card:
Absolute power! Total control of the world... its people, wealth and resources - that's the objective of Cobra Commander. This fanatical leader rules with an iron fist. He demands total loyalty and allegiance. His main battle plan, for world control, relies on revolution and chaos. He personally led uprisings in the Middle East, Southeast Asia and other trouble spots. Responsible for kidnapping scientists, businessmen and military leaders, then forcing them to reveal their top level secrets.
Cobra Commander is hatred and evil personified. Corrupt. A man without scruples. Most dictators and would-be Napoleon types are hampered by the need to pretend that they are pursuing a noble and just cause. Cobra Commander doesn't have that problem. This guy's in it for the money and the power, and if anybody else is interested in these things, they can pick up an assault rifle and get in line behind him.

The Militant Marker in Black and White...

This is a self portrait that I whipped up in about 10 minutes last week. I finally got around to inking it, and figured I would post it. As much as I have convinced myself that I can never draw myself accurately, I sketched this out and it seems to do me a toonish justice. Hopefully I'll have it colored in the next week.

What I'm reading....The Zombie Survival Guide

I haven't been as up to par with my reading over the last 6 months or so, so I decided to get back on it to spark some much needed desire and inspiration to get back on track with my own projects. The new title I picked up was The Zombie Survival Guide by Max Brooks. The meat of this book offers extensive information on battling and surviving against the living dead (maybe one day this book will come in handy?). The Zombie Survival Guide has been out for a while, but I just never broke down and got it and now that I have it, I realize just how entertaining it is.

John Henry....In living color

I finally got around to finishing up coloring John Henry. I'll will emancipate Paul Bunyan from the realm of black and white as well. Hope ya' likes.
